August 15, 2014 -- Musical Chairs Surgery Date!!!

Just a quick note to let you know that Hope's surgery date has been changed again. . .

. . . Hope will now have surgery a week earlier on Tuesday, September 2nd!  The surgeon wanted this change because he is leaving town from Sept 9-16, and wanted to make sure that he would be here for Hope's first week in hospital post-op.  This was hard to hear at first, as we had based our schedule for the next 3 weeks on the "old" "new" surgery date.  ; )

However, later that afternoon, Hope was in a tremendous amount of pain and unable to move her right leg, after complaining of her hip "popping."  I did a quick assessment of her range of motion and pain in her right leg and was concerned that her hip could have slipped out of joint.  But after a quick call to the new ortho nurse (who knows us well from our 5 month stay on Unit 4!), and continuing to observe Hope's movement of her leg, we decided that her hip was not currently out of joint, but rather was slipping in/out with certain movements (any flexion or rotation of the hip) and especially transfers.  This was due to the scoliosis and pelvic obliquity (tilted or crooked pelvis) that was putting so much stress on her hip joint. This in turn was causing a lot of additional pain for Hope who still was suffering increasing rib and back pain.

Hope spent the next two days in bed, only able to tolerate being up in her recliner chair for one hour to eat, and then begging to go back to bed due to pain.  We had to be super careful and creative transferring her and moving her, as she was in a lot of pain.  We started to wonder if this would now continue until surgery.  We got ready to clear our schedules for the next 3 weeks to try to manage this newest hurdle, and became very thankful for God's intervention to move Hope's surgery date up one more week!  How fast she has gone down hill this past 2 months!

God poured grace over Hope, and after 2 really tough days, Hope started to improve.  We still have to be careful with our transfers and moving her, but it is not nearly as bad. . . she can tolerate being in her wheelchair for short stints again.  We are very thankful for God's healing hand on her hip joint, and will trust Him for protecting her and "holding her together" while we wait for this surgery day!  For a surgery that all of us would soooo choose to never see her endure, it is becoming more and more alluring as an answer that God has provided to give her comfort from so much suffering.  We are thankful, and although still asking God for the His miraculous healing so as to avoid surgery and all the losses that will come with it, we are thankful for His provision of a surgery that will likely bring her comfort and ease from her suffering, in spite of the losses.  I'm so thankful that we can just trust the Lord to do what is best for His glory and purposes, as well as our precious girlie's life, comfort, and future!

This weekend is Hope's uncle's wedding and we are busy busy getting ready for it.  Family has started arriving and it is a joy to have this time to visit and celebrate with them.  I'll try to post some pictures when I get a chance after the wedding!  We have two very excited girlies. . . one flowergirl, and one junior bridesmaid!!!  : )  They thoroughly enjoyed their first day with their cousins and Hope said she would "be up early tomorrow," ready for another full day of fun and final preparations, including a rehearsal!

Thank you for your continued prayers!  We will be going into the hospital on Aug 26th for all the pre-op necessities.  Hope will need blood work again, and she would love to have your prayers covering her as she really dislikes needles.  Sept 2nd is the first day of school and so she will now miss the beginning of school, and start several weeks in after her surgery recovery.   Also Hope is sad that her new surgery date is just one day after her birthday and so part of her birthday will be doing the necessary pre-op tasks and we will not be able to plan much for that day or the weekend preceding surgery.  She is hoping that one of her birthday presents will be the Lord's return!  : )  I love her heart's desire for her Saviour and being with Him as the ultimate hope and reward!  In the light of the sad news of the heart-breaking death of a popular and loved man like Robin Williams who seemed to "have it all," I cannot express how thankful I am to know the hope we have in Christ. . . it will NEVER disappoint!  Hebrew 6:19  To see that hope lived out in our child's life, is so very precious to us!  How I sorrow over so many who are lost and without hope in this sinful decaying tragic-ridden world. . . may I be faithful to continue to share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ alone boldly and joyfully, until His return!!!

You are so loved, dear ones!  Thank you so very much for continuing to lift our Hopey and our family up in prayer. . . we are so humbled and thankful for your love and care of our family as you remember us in prayer!  God is faithful!!!

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
